Tagged again! This is how we find out eachother's dirty little secrets...
...this time by RG Alexander. So, here are the rules for this tag:
1. Grab the book closest to you.
2. Open to page 123, look down to the 5th sentence.
3. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog.
4. Include the title and the author’s name.
5. Tag 3 people

Here's my entry:

'But already they were moving, all four of them, towards the main door.
Special companion. Did that mean client?
Lean and coordinated, they undid the door, and walked through: Goldhawk silent; Copperfield blowing me a kiss as he went, playful, rather M-B; Black Chess a panther who paused to look along the outer passage, profile cut from stone.'

This is from Tanith Lee's Metallic Lover, one of my favorite books ever, other than the first in the series, Silver Metal Lover, which I've mentioned several times on my blog, and recently, in fact. I was just mentioning these books to author Emma Petersen earlier today, which is why it was on my desk.
So, because of that, I'm tagging her first! I'm also tagging Robin Rotham and Eva Gale.

A short rant
I swear I'm grateful for the way my career has taken off, but sometimes the requirements of a published author can be frustrating.I have a book on deadline, and for whatever reason (wish I knew!) I'm having a terrible time getting into the head of my heroine. Meanwhile, I just wrote a proposal for a novella and I am dying to write that story! I'm so into these characters and the premise-it's a story I've had in my head for months. But it'll be months before I can even touch it. At least, when this current book is done, I'll have this one to look forward to. But what do I do now? The novella characters are speaking to me, but the characters in the book I have on deadline are as silent as a grave. Writing this book is like pulling teeth, and I'm afraid the story will suffer as a result. I have to find a way to get into the groove with this book, somehow.Have any of you been through this-being forced to write a book you can't get into, but finding a way to do it, and do it well, anyway? Help!

Wicked reads and other meanderings...
I do love a good, wicked story. Maybe that's why I write them. Fellow author Kezia Hill showed me a link to this website where you can type in an author's name and it 'maps' other authors you might enjoy. I typed in Tanith Lee, one of my favorite dark authors-she's been an enormous influence on my own writing. She writes erotica, horror and fantasy & sci-fi, but no matter the genre, the strength of her voice shines through. If you haven't read her, you absolutely must! Her use of language is so gorgeous, I can get lost in the way she puts words together, reading a passage over and over simply because it's so beautiful. Even if you don't normally read these genres, I'd highly recommend her, just for the experience. If you're a romance fan, start with her 'Silver Metal Lover', one of my favroite books ever.
Anyway, back to my point...I typed in Tanith Lee and came up with the name Jane Yolen, then went to look her up on Amazon, and she writes dark fairy tales, which I love. Tanith Lee has done quite a few, herself. My poor credit card! Jane Yolen, of course, led me to other authors. Now I must get Briar Rose by Jane Yolen, Fitcher's Brides by Gregory Frost and The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter. I'm trying to stop there, but the day is young!
Oh, BTW, here's the website for the Literature Map:http://www.literature-map.com/
Speaking of dark, delicious reads, my kinky friends should take a look at Miranda Heart's new tale of the Marquis de Sade:
Title: Something Unexpected
Author: Miranda HeartPublisher: Freya's Bower 2006
Release Date: January 16, 2006Blurb: Beatrice doesn't understand her new found feelings for pain and pleasure until she meets the Marquis de Sade. As hard as she tries to deny her feelings, the Marquis and what he can do to her continues to excite Beatrice. Finally, she devises a scheme to get him alone. By the end of the night, she's sated but disappointed that she can't share her new tastes with her betrothed and must keep it a secret. Having had a taste of what she really needs, how can she endure a long, boring marriage?

Happy writing-and reading!

New Sale to Bantam!
I got the word today that I've sold two more erotic novels to Bantam! Tentative titles and brief blurbs:
Exotica: Seven Days of Kama Sutra & Nine Days of Arabian Nights
In this two-part story, two women reaffirm an old friendship while they each explore their most secret desires at Exotica, an exclusive fantasy resort for women in the sultry desert heat of Palm Springs.
The Principles of Lust is the story of a university sociology professor who teaches a course in Alternative Sexuality. When she begins an affair with a younger man—one of her students—she finally explores her own unusual desires: the sensuality of food.

I don't have release dates yet-just deadlines-LOL! But I imagine they'll be out some time in 2008. Lots of writing to do!
Big thanks to my awesome agent, Roberta Brown, for handling this sale for me. I love this woman! And I'm grateful to my editor for showing confidence in my abilities-a huge compliment, and I'll do everything I can to fulfill her expectations. I feel very lucky!

I'm so boring
So-I haven't posted since December 28th because I have absolutely nothing to talk about and I'm sure you all have better things to do than listen to me blather on about nothing. But what the hell, I'm about to do it, anyway.
Um...what the heck have I been doing? I've spent a lot of time developing proposals and writing first chapters for two books which I hope to sell to Bantam. I sent it in on Friday afternoon to my editor, so now I'm waiting to hear back. I am not a good waiter. I'm not sleeping well and I manically check my e-mail sixteen times a day. I never said I wasn't totally neurotic.
Meanwhile, I'm getting prepared for the Romantic Times conference, which requires four different costumes. A total PITA, but I love, love, love costume parties, so I'm in costume geek heaven. I recently ordered my wings for the Fairy Ball, which arrived today and they're gorgeous! All black and sparkly-so cool! My b/f was watching me take them out of the box and try them on, and he was rolling his eyes at my excitement. Am I the only one who loves this stuff? Okay, besides Lillian Feisty, who apparently has a costume collection so large she actually has to rent a storage room just to hold them. (I am so jealous!).
I also received my fangs for the Vampire Ball-they came in this cool little plastic coffin. I'm a sucker for good packaging.
Now all I have left to decide is who to go as for the Dorchester Legends of Rock n' Roll party. This one has me stumped. Any suggestions?
I suppose I should stop babbling and go write-I haven't written since Friday-BAD! But right now I'd almost rather do housework.
Okay-off to find something else to distract myself with...
